Part-time Music Teacher

Position Description: We are looking for a part-time music teacher to teach grades K-5. French language proficiency is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Devise unique grade level music curricula for elementary students. Curricula should focus on developing students’ vocal techniques (e.g. singing on key, keeping tempo, producing a pleasant choral sound, harmonizing), building instrumental skills (e.g. rhythm sticks, egg shakers, triangles, finger cymbals, etc.), and learning new songs in French and in English, possibly with other grades.
  • Arrange concerts for students to perform songs or instruments for parents.
  • Be able to smoothly switch from one grade to another, adapting to the unique developmental needs of each group.
  • Be open to suggestions from the French classroom teacher who may want to integrate French national music curriculum.

  • Has strong interpersonal skills
  • Has prior experience working in a school environment or with children
  • Is fluent in English, with knowledge and understanding of the French language and culture a plus
  • Is willing to learn and implement positive behavioral management techniques
  • Is dependable and on-time
  • Has basic computer skills, with use of Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets a plus

 

Assistant Teachers

Position Description: The Assistant Teacher provides essential logistical support to L’Etoile students and staff. They supervise students from preschool to grade 5. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the lead teachers and administrative staff to support the goals of the school. We are looking for Assistant Teachers who seek to advance their skills in the classroom and to grow professionally and intellectually. 

Responsibilities:

Assistant Teachers at L’Etoile:

  • Supervise students and assist teachers in the classroom
  • Cover teacher breaks including lunchtime and recess
  • Engage students in structured activities as needed for recess and aftercare
  • Inform the Head of School or Pedagogical Director of disciplinary situations involving students
  • Ensure students follow all health and safety guidelines, including mask wearing and social distancing
  • Assume the role of teacher in his/her absence 
  • Communicate regularly with lead teachers and administrators
  • Attend orientations, staff meetings, and training sessions as assigned
  • Other related duties as needed

Additional Information

  • This position requires onsite presence at L’Etoile French Immersion School
  • Assistant Teacher must obtain and maintain current Office of Childcare certifications including: Central Background Registry, Food Handler, CPR/First Aid

Substitute Teachers

L’Etoile is looking for substitute teachers to lead classes from preschool through 5th grade. Under the emergency childcare guidelines during COVID-19, our preschool classes are capped at 10 students and our K-5 classes have 15 or less students. 

 Requirements

  • Experience teaching in primary school, or working with primary school children
  • Teaching degree preferable
  • Experience as a substitute teacher a plus
  • Availability at short notice helpful (when possible assignments will be given in advance)
  • Organization, proactivity and initiative, kindness, patience
  • Capacity to work with a team and to integrate a new class/level quickly
  • Central Background Registry number in Oregon
  • Must wear a face covering while teaching and use caution in and outside of the classroom regarding social distancing and other COVID-19 safety protocols.

Duties

  • Follow lesson plans written by teachers + follow-up with a communication to teachers after
  • Supervision during transitions and recess
  • Cleaning and tidying up classrooms as needed

L’Etoile is open 5 days a week, 7:50 am to 6:00 pm. Substitute hours will vary depending on the needs of the school and your availability.

Certified French Teachers for the 2021-2022 School Year

L’Etoile is seeking full-time French Teachers for the 2021-2022 school year. Candidates must be motivated, self-directed, flexible, and possess solid English speaking skills. Ideal candidates also possess a collaborative work ethic and warm demeanor. Preference will be given to those who are certified through the French Ministry of Education. Class sizes are limited to 20 students, but generally range from 15-18.

Employment begins in the last week of August 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience.
