Leadership & Faculty Home / About Us / Leadership & Faculty Dedicated Leaders & Expert Teachers At our school, everyone works together to make sure students and families feel happy and supported. Our leaders, staff, and teachers are all here to help. Our teachers love sharing what they know, whether it’s about reading, music, or outer space! They make learning fun and exciting, helping students explore new things and find what they love. Together, we create a special place where students can grow and learn every day. From the Head of School Joëlle Mayo Dear Future L’Etoile Family, Bonjour, and welcome to L’Etoile! On any given morning at L’Etoile, you might find a three-year-old carefully pouring water between tiny pitchers, another building words with moveable letters, and nearby, a group of preschoolers animatedly discussing a story with their teacher entirely in French. These are some of my favorite moments, and they happen here every day. At L’Etoile, French is woven into every part of the school day. Children use it to ask questions, solve problems, tell stories, and navigate their day together. Over time, immersion does much more than teach a second language. It helps children become flexible thinkers: more willing to take risks, more comfortable making mistakes, and more confident in unfamiliar situations. Our curriculum follows the French educational model, where every activity and every atelier serves a clear purpose, and each stage of learning thoughtfully builds on the next. Children in kindergarten begin writing in cursive, but they have been developing the fine motor and pre-writing skills that make that possible since they were two or three. The classrooms feel joyful and hands-on, but the progression behind the work is extraordinarily intentional. Our teachers are all native French speakers with strong training and deep experience in education. They come to L’Etoile because they love to teach and want to be part of a community built around warm classrooms where relationships matter deeply. Families often tell me they came for the French, but stayed because of the community they found here. I see it in the conversations between parents after events, in children who genuinely love coming to school, and in the strong relationships that form between teachers and families over time. From summer welcome gatherings to family connections and opportunities for children to spend time on campus before school begins, we want new families to feel known and at home from the very beginning. Of course, L’Etoile is best understood in person. We would love to welcome your family to campus and share the warmth, joy, and energy that make this community so special. L’Etoile teachers are selected according to the exacting standards of the French Ministry of Education. All faculty hold teaching credentials from their native countries, and the qualifications required to teach at the preschool and elementary level within our system are commensurate with a master’s-level qualification in the United States. These are not simply bilingual educators. They are trained specialists in the French pedagogical tradition, bringing to our classrooms the depth of knowledge and professional formation that the French system demands. What do families appreciate most about teachers at L’Etoile French Immersion School? Families frequently praise our teachers for their exceptional warmth, accessibility, and dedication to building strong, open-door partnerships with parents. Beyond guiding academic progress, our educators deeply invest in each child’s emotional resilience, confidence, and social growth. Parents highly value the rich international expertise our native French-speaking faculty brings from diverse Francophone backgrounds, creating an authentic immersion environment that sparks curiosity and cultural awareness. Ultimately, families appreciate that L’Etoile teachers look at every student as an individual, cultivating a nurturing space where children feel safe taking linguistic risks and developing into empathetic, globally minded learners. What makes the teachers at L’Etoile French Immersion School exceptional? The exceptional nature of our faculty lies in their unique ability to seamlessly weave the high academic standards of an authentic French education with a deeply nurturing, child-centered approach. As native French speakers and highly trained educators, our instructors bring deep expertise in language acquisition and traditional French pedagogy to the classroom. Because they understand that learning a second language requires vulnerability, our teachers focus on building close, supportive relationships with every child. They intentionally design safe, engaging environments where students feel entirely comfortable taking intellectual risks, speaking a new language, and authentically being themselves. How do teachers at L’Etoile French Immersion School communicate with families? At L’Etoile, a vibrant partnership between home and school is essential, and our small class sizes ensure that every family is deeply known. We maintain an open-door policy where communication happens naturally and regularly, complemented by spontaneous daily touchpoints during drop-off and pick-up. To support each child’s academic and emotional growth, teachers collaborate closely with parents throughout the year and conduct comprehensive parent-teacher conferences twice annually, in the fall and spring. This ongoing dialogue, enriched by our frequent community celebrations, fosters a warm, deeply connected ecosystem where families feel fully informed and valued. Does L’Etoile French Immersion School have long-standing faculty and staff? L’Etoile benefits from a highly stable staff culture and long-term leadership, anchored by certified Professeurs des Écoles from France who have completed rigorous national training. Many of our lead educators join us through the prestigious détachement program, which allows French public school teachers to work abroad for two to five years while maintaining their professional standing with the French Ministry of Education. While this visa structure naturally introduces a rhythmic rotation of fresh educational excellence, several faculty members have chosen to stay permanently, and we enrich our classrooms annually with university-educated teaching assistants on one-year cultural exchange visas. This unique blend ensures a consistent, deeply dedicated team and a continuous infusion of authentic cultural vitality.
